In March 2018 the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport announced a £67 million Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme in which both businesses and local communities can gain financial assistance towards the improvement of their broadband connection.
Small to medium businesses are able to claim up to £2,500 against the cost of their full fibre broadband connection, which can be carried out individually or as a group of companies.
Gigabit connections enable your business to stay connected around the clock
Reap the benefits of improved digital connectivity with full fibre broadband
Business owners can claim up to £2,500 to upgrade their fibre connection
The UK Government have created the Gigabit Voucher Scheme in a bid to improve the connectivity of businesses and residential properties. By making the switch to a gigabit connection your line will be transporting a gigabit of data per second, which is a huge step up in terms of connectivity.
Full fibre broadband can support multiple users that have high data requirements, making this connection ideal for businesses with a small to medium sized teams. Gigabit connections also mean that upload and download speeds can be the same, making the line more durable and connections more reliable for users on the network.
As many businesses utilise cloud-based solutions for their storage, hosting and telephony, these will also benefit from an improved connection, providing a quicker and more reliable service for growing SMEs.
Unlike traditional broadband connections, there is no barrier in terms of the distance of your office from the cabinet. Instead, all those utilising the gigabit connection from this updated cabinet will benefit from increased speeds – no matter how far away they are.
As a business you must be classified as a small to medium-sized enterprise to be eligible for the voucher scheme. The definition of an SME is a business that has fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover less than €50 million or a balance sheet not exceeding €43 million.
The voucher is also inclusive of sole traders.
Application for the Gigabit Voucher Scheme is a simple 6-step process, in which the first step requires businesses to contact their chosen registered supplier and express interest in applying for the project.
As a supplier-led process your selected partner will make the application for the voucher on your behalf, once this has been approved, they then begin the work to provide your new connection. You will deal directly with you chosen provider throughout the process, the voucher scheme providers will only be in touch at the end of the project to ensure everything is running as it should be.
