James Whillock has gone from IT Apprentice to Senior Service Desk Engineer at Seriun in three years.
James joined the Seriun team in 2019 as an IT apprentice through Burnley College. On completion of his studies in July 2020, he was promoted to Service Desk Engineer. He continued learning and built up a bank of qualifications including a computing level 3 extended diploma, level 3 infrastructure technician (distinction), level 3 in coding and logic, MTA Windows server administration fundamentals, and 3CX intermediate certification. His expanding skills and knowledge were further recognised in April this year when he was promoted to his current Senior Service Desk role.
Prior to his apprenticeship, James achieved a level 3 BTEC in computing at Burnley College, he was one of their best performers and his story has been used as a shining example sitting proudly on the college walls showing his success and determination. As an aside, Seriun’s Head of Cyber Security Wayne Fulton, was formerly a tutor at Burnley College and taught James during his apprenticeship.
James’ next steps include him working towards Microsoft foundation and further exams encompassing Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows environments. He will also be preparing for the final 3CX advanced certificate. He also plans to learn Microsoft Intune for customer application.
James said: “I have many opportunities here at Seriun and feel I could take my career in many different directions, depending on what choices I make.” He continued: “I’m looking forward to the challenges that my new role will bring, I think it’s important to always push yourself to find new limits and satisfaction’.
Outside of the office James enjoys live music events, rollerskating, hiking in the great outdoors, and thrifting vintage clothes and jewellery.
His recent claim to fame was bumping into Bez from Happy Mondays and getting him to sign his tee shirt. He is also a rubix cube pro and can complete one in less one minute.
